What Meeting Star does

Meeting Star is a menu bar app that records audio during a meeting, transcribes it, and writes a summary, decisions, and action items to a plain Markdown file — stored in a folder on your Mac that you choose the first time you launch the app. Audio files, screenshots, and typed notes are stored in that same folder.

What we collect

Nothing. Meeting Star has no analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry, and no account system — there is nothing to sign up for and nothing tied to your identity. We do not know you opened the app, ran a recording, or how you use it, because there is no channel back to us at all.

Where your audio and transcript go

By default, nowhere but your disk. Two specific, optional exceptions:

• Local transcription runs entirely on-device via a local Whisper model — your audio never leaves your Mac to become text. If you instead choose to configure a remote transcription provider (OpenAI or Groq) with your own API key, your audio is sent directly from your Mac to that provider, under their terms, and never passes through us.
• Summarization — the step that turns your transcript into a short summary, decisions, and action items — sends the finished transcript text (never raw audio) directly from your Mac to OpenRouter, using an API key you provide. This only happens if you've configured a key; without one, Meeting Star still saves your recording and transcript, just without the generated summary.

In both cases, the request goes straight from your Mac to that provider's API. We are not a party to it, don't proxy it, and never see the contents.

What's stored, and where

• Audio recordings (.wav), meeting notes (.md), and screenshots (.png) are written to the folder you selected on first launch — nowhere else.
• Your AI provider API key(s) are stored in a .env file inside that same folder, under your control.
• Meeting Star keeps a security-scoped bookmark (a macOS sandboxing mechanism) so it can find that folder again on your next launch. This bookmark stays on your device; it is never transmitted.

Deleting your data

Delete the Markdown, audio, or screenshot files for a meeting, and that's it — there is no other copy anywhere, because nothing was ever sent anywhere else to be deleted from. Uninstalling the app leaves your notes folder untouched, since it's an ordinary folder on your disk, not app-managed storage.

Children's privacy

Meeting Star is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age — it doesn't collect information from anyone at all, by design.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a new "last updated" date above.
